Union University's BSN-DNP Nurse Anesthesia Track
Welcome back! I thought it might be a good idea to include a blog post about my nurse anesthesia program.
I attend Union University in Jackson, TN. Historically, the nurse anesthesia program has been a MSN program. However, the nurse anesthesia track (NAT) just changed to a BSN-DNP format. My class (The Class of 2016) will be the first to graduate from the new BSN-DNP format.
That being said, my class is often referred to as "the guinea pigs", as the faculty members are continually assessing our curriculum, assignments, and new course structure for effectiveness as we progress through the program. We're all kind of "rolling with the punches", so to speak, but the faculty members are great at helping us along the way. In a lot of ways, it's not so bad being the first class to try out a new format. It won't be easy, but in order to move forward and make our program better, change is often necessary. This is definitely a positive change for the program.
In addition to the BSN-DNP NAT option, Union also offers a Post-Master's DNP for practicing CRNAs who are interested in going back to school to earn their DNP degree.
History: Union University's first class in the nurse anesthesia track began in January 2006. Here we are now, eight years later, and the program is still going strong. In May 2012, the program celebrated full re-accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) through the year 2022. Additionally, just this past August 2013, the COA also fully accredited the BSN-DNP track.

Topics of interest you might want to look at include, "Program Admission Requirements", "Program Updates and Highlights", "Program Achievement Rates", and the "BSN-DNP Curriculum Model". You can also read about our wonderful anesthesia faculty. Finally, there are some good pictures under the "Recent Photos" heading.
If you are thinking about applying to CRNA school, I would encourage you to highly consider Union University's program. I wouldn't want to be completing my nurse anesthesia education any other place.
