I like the quote above because it reminds me that, while our future work as CRNAs will be hard, it will certainly be worth doing. Let me back up even further and say that, while our work right now as SRNAs is hard, it will definitely be worthwhile in the end.
That being said, on becoming a student registered nurse anesthetist (SRNA), the SRNA immediately becomes a member of two important state and national nurse anesthesia organizations. These two organizations include the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) and the Tennessee Association of Nurse Anesthetists (TANA). Both of these organizations are instrumental to the practice of nurse anesthesia by lobbying at both the state and federal levels for continued practice rights, regulating practice guidelines for CRNAs, providing continuing education opportunites, and advocating for the field of nurse anesthesia. The "Core Values", as stated by the AANA include, Quality, Professionalism, Compassion, Collaboration, Wellness, and Diversity. I am proud to be associated with such a respectable, progressive organization that works to protect and promote the practice of nurse anesthesia.
The class of 2016 had the privilege of attending the annual TANA meeting in Murfreesboro, TN this past October. This will be an annual event for us while we are in school here. At the TANA meeting, various CRNAs from throughout the state of Tennessee came to obtain continuing education credits, to hear updates on legislation pertinent to the practice of TN CRNAs, and to vote for those individuals who would serve as presiding officers and board members for TANA for the upcoming year. Additionally, students from CRNA programs across the state of TN were given the opportunity to present some of their research projects in an informal setting. This was a very informative weekend for us all to attend, and I really enjoyed spending time with my classmates, meeting new people, and observing the overall "internal workings" of our state CRNA organization. As you can tell from the pictures below, we had a great time:
Also, I encourage you to check out the AANA and TANA websites. The links are provided below:
